Could your organization withstand an I-9 inspection, or would it face costly fines? The Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986 aimed to legalize roughly three million undocumented immigrants and discourage future unauthorized immigration. Since then, U.S. employers have had to complete Form I-9 for every worker hired after November 6, 1986, and knowingly hiring someone without U.S. work authorization breaks federal law.
Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, is the employer's record of how it confirmed each worker's eligibility. Employers retain the forms and must make them available to inspectors from the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Labor and the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices.
This 90-minute I-9 audit webinar covers the current form, the end of COVID-era virtual document review, and how to prepare for a likely surge in ICE audits.
WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND?
Completing, storing and properly disposing of I-9s is demanding, and with the current focus on immigration enforcement, the chance of an audit is higher than ever. More employers now run proactive self-audits and use E-Verify, the web-based system for confirming work eligibility electronically.
This session helps HR, compliance, recruiting and operations professionals, leaders and managers understand proper documentation, recordkeeping, self-audit methods and E-Verify, and learn how to survive an external audit without heavy fines or ICE enforcement actions.
